After the main applicant has held a three-year temporary residence permit, permanent residency is granted, and dependants have held a five-year temporary residence permit. The main applicant must be at least 18 years old, have no criminal record, and may include his/her spouse and dependent children under 18 in the application. Initially, temporary resident permits will be given, with the opportunity to seek permanent residency after three years for the primary applicant and five years for the remaining family members.

After eight years of residency, family members can apply for German citizenship again if they have lived permanently in Germany for eight years and passed a German language test. A German passport is one of the most valuable in the world, granting the holder the right to live, work, or study anywhere in the European Union.
